"An Affordable Experience - Not Your Average B & B"
At Ardouval, near Bellencombre, is the site of Val-Ygot and its Memorial. Situated in the Forêt d'Eawy, this is the old base from which heavy bombardments of V1 missiles were launched during the Second World War. The site is covered by concrete runways which served the blockhouses (of which only traces now remain). Visitors now may see a section of rebuilt ramp which supports a faithful replica of a V1 rocket. There are explanatory signs in 3 languages.
Near Saint-Saëns, at Sommery (only 6 kilometres from Forges-les-Eaux), is the Bray Farm, which conserves the rural memories of the region in a 17th century agricultural setting, featuring a cider press, a mill, a bread oven, a dairy, etc. This is a conservation centre for rural tools and techniques; arts and crafts stand alongside methods of agriculture and old agricultural tools. There is an aquatic garden and stretches of trout-fishing water.
Gerberoy, near Saint-Germer-de-Fly, is a small historic town with well-preserved architecture dating from the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries. The town's location dominates the valley of Arondel and the Bois Caumont, offering an exceptional site which has earned Gerberoy the distinction of being officially classified as one of the most beautiful villages in France.
At Saint-Germer-de-Fly is a 12th century abbey church, one of the most ancient gothic monuments of the Oise region, together with a 13th century saints' chapel which is a flamboyantly-styled replica of the Sainte Chapelle in Paris.
In the church at Coudray-Saint-Germer is the shrine of Saint Babolein, a listed historical monument since 1901. It is a magnificent example of the goldsmiths' and silversmiths' crafts, fabricated in the form of a house, made of wood and gilded copper. This reliquary is essentially of the 13th century gothic period and also contains some earlier figurines.
